The KINER ADU project in Willow Glen, San Jose, showcases a minimalistic yet multifunctional studio in the backyard of a craftsman-style house. This 190-square-foot dwelling unit, designed for hosting, also serves as a tranquil space for working, studying, or exercising, all while being surrounded by the beauty of the lush greenery. The tiny home maximizes every inch of space for functionality. Key features include a strategically placed Murphy bed that faces the blooming garden, framed by built-in open shelves for clothes and nightstand lamps, a floating vanity next to the bed, and an independent shower and toilet room with narrow tall windows. This seamless integration connects the ADU with the exterior green spaces, creating a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor living.
This project also included a comprehensive front and backyard landscape redesign to enhance the garden's depth and visual interest. The design features deep, newly installed planters that add layers and dimension, while multiple pebbled walkways create inviting pathways that lead through the space. These elements work together to infuse the garden with dynamic movement and a thoughtfully balanced interplay of void and mass.
