This Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in San Jose was envisioned as a versatile, multifunctional space, designed to serve as an independent living unit. During the day, it functions as a home office, transitions into a teen’s gaming and hangout room in the afternoon, and can be effortlessly converted into a fully equipped guest suite when needed. The 350-square-foot space, inspired by Nordic design, features a sloped roof, high ceilings, and tall windows that flood the interior with natural light.
A 14-foot-long, 2-inch hardwood countertop serves as the centerpiece, seamlessly connecting the three main areas: a minimalistic kitchen, an entertainment center, and a spacious floating desk for work. The bespoke built-in furniture wall was meticulously crafted to create smooth transitions between work and leisure areas, ensuring cohesiveness and a sleek, modern aesthetic throughout the space.
